‘DESIGNERS/ LABELS’
SIFR ESSENTIALS: LOOKBOOK
Possibly one of the better homegrown labels seen around, Know It Nothing’s in-house label SIFR recently shot their lookbook for SIFR Essentials-a basics line created by the dynamic trio Suraj Melwani, Chris Fussner and Daryl Chan. Combining the best materials for the hot and humid weather with lightweight materials, quality and finishing is never a compromise with the label and judging by the tastefully-shot lookbook, we can rely on SIFR to bring comfort and style into the same category.
SIFR is available at Know It Nothing, 51 Haji Lane

DC SHOE X SBTG: CIRCUS OF MUTANTS
Another milestone for renowned designer/ sneaker customiser Mark Ong better known as SBTG, Circus of Mutants is a collaboration between skate brand DC Shoe and the man himself, who easily is the best candidate for the collab. Embracing skateboarding with a passion since he was young, Mark revealed that the Circus of Mutants were known as legends in his youth when he first picked up the skateboard.
Taking inspiration from the skate crew that was formed in the late 80’s, the collaboration boasts two sneakers, a pair of board shorts, two tees and two hats, all designed by SBTG. The entire collection sees a fly incorporated in the clothing to pay respect to “The Fly”, one of the earlier pioneers in Singaporean skateboarding. His early nickname was branded to Lucas by members of the “Circus of Mutants” crew because of the skateboarders unrivalled ability to spend more time in the air than on the ground.
To commemorate the event, DC Shoe joins forces with local sneaker store GALLERY to launch the Circus of Mutants collection at Rebel Boutique Club on Saturday 13th March ‘10. You can bet on it to be a power-packed night with an autograph session with SBTG, appearances by members of the original Circus of Mutants crew, a live musical performance by Southern California’s Renee Renee as well as a DC skateboard art exhibition where 20 artists from the lion city will be chosen to showcase their work on a DC deck. On top of that, a highly exclusive run (12 pairs!) of True Mids in a purple GALLERY colourway will also be released.
DC Shoe will officially be releasing their Spring 2010 collaboration at local retailers from 14th March 2010.
SMG: ONLY DEAD MEN HAVE SEEN THE END OF WAR
Amid the struggles occuring in everyday life, SMG takes these experiences and transforms them into a message that is easily relatable to in their clothing. “Only the dead have seen the end of war” speaks about these daily wars that will never cease, and the only way to see it end is when we no longer exist. Though it can easily be taken in a morbid aspect, the brand’s interpretation of the title is very much the opposite, that “What does not kill us will only make us stronger.” We cannot agree more. Check out the new drops that come in the three staple colourways, and be assured that these might just be some of the most comfortable cotton tees you own.

SUP: WINDBREAKER + SUPEONFX CYCLING HAT
What I love most about Sup is that they never fail to look out for the interests of their supporters and just do their thing for local street culture. Releasing another set of weather-friendly gear for fixie-enthusiasts, roadies and riders alike, the local boutique has produced a windbreaker bearing Sup’s signature speech bubble monogram which are thoughtfully 100% water-resistant, as well as a special first-ever collaboration with local cycling-oriented apparel retailer PEONFX (who previously introduced this kick-ass messenger bag). The SUPEONFX Cycling Hat is a 100% cotton with the respective patch logos on each side and are available at Sup’s online store as well as their Haji Lane boutique.

Flesh Imp X F|x|e P|x|e

Local label Flesh Imp, in collaboration with Hong Kong-based fixed gear head Calvin a.k.a F|x|e P|x|e will be releasing a fixie-inspired collection that will be available in mid-March. Calvin was in Singapore last weekend for the shoot of the lookbook, shot by none other than my man Bum Ariffin.
The shoot was done over at the F1 track, next to the F1 pit building and I was lucky enough to witness the whole process of the boys doing their thing. I personally can’t wait to see the final images. Judging by the behind-the-scenes photos, I’m sure the final images would be mind-blowing!
The collaboration collection consists of the t-shirt ($59) and also a messenger bag ($69).

LAZY: RIPPER III DUNK HI
Juggling both his clothing label as well as sneaker customs, the man really amazes me with his consistency in rolling out the good stuff. The newest addition to his webstore, The Ripper III relives the original Ripper design that was released back in 2005, this time limited to 6 pairs worldwide. One of the dopest in my opinion, the dunk hi’s feature the use of raw green-red-green selvage black denim along with an olive green shemagh material, synthetic croc swooshes and randomly positioned contrasting red zigzag stitches.
Grab yours over at webstore.akalazy.com, and at the same time get into the mind of Lazy at his RCGNTN Guestblog over at www.rcgntn.com/tony. The man’s passion for pushing local street culture is the very driving force behind his products, so do your bit in the fight for our own culture and support local!
DRIFTERS: SPRING SUMMER ‘10
WhiteRoom’s very own inhouse label Drifters released their first drop for the Spring Summer ‘10 range about two weeks back, the new batch consisting of four new designs named after the male heartthrobs of the 80’s, namely McCarthy, Stoltz, Dillon and Spader. The shirts come in three colourways each with two detachable collars, and is possibly some of the best and creative cut-and-sew you can find in our country.
Take a look and feel them for yourself over at WhiteRoom, 37 Haji Lane.
FRUFRU & TIGERLILY STORE LAUNCH
Music takes the form of accessories and garments, and FruFru & Tigerlily stand by the belief that music along with moods and imagery are related to clothing. The brainchild of Ginette Chittick (of Beat!, Astreal, Psycho Sonique and many other talents), Jasmine Tuan and Cheryl Tan, FruFru & Tigerlily has come a long way since its debut in May 2005, incorporating the images conjured up by their music influences into their clothing.
Come March 12th, the label will be launching their first ever store down at the very familiar Black Market at 19 Jalan Pisang together with their forth collection “Like Wolves“. Looking at pictures of the collection, I cannot help but feel intrigued by the bold cutting as well as the dark vibe that it exudes; definitely a must-see. Free booze as always, so head down and support some of Singapore’s finest!
The new store will be located at Black Market, 19 Jalan Pisang. The store launches 12th March 2010 at 7.30pm.
