ROCKSTAR VIDEO BEHIND-THE-SCENES

Kevin Lester from the band Sixx will be releasing a solo track titled “Rockstar” and he sought help from some familiar faces for the music video.
Some of those involved in the shoot were Sketch One, MC Garuda, Syaheed, the island’s premiere B-Boy crew – Radikal Forze and the boys from fixed gear collective Crank Arm Steady.
The track is somewhat an ode to the island’s various subcultures and I must say that it’s about time someone did something like this. I was lucky enough to listen to the unmixed version of the track and I am really digging it. I can’t wait to see how the video looks like. The “Rockstar” track will be available for download for free.
Here are some pictures from the shoot:

DORY: FORM OVER FUNCTION
Breaking out of his norm with this piece, toy customiser Dory stretches beyond customising toys for the NAC’s Singapore NOISE Festival 2010. Known for his crazy detailing, the customiser transforms a simple pair of canvas sneakers into a something that runs reminescent with those diver suits worn in WWII; particularly emphasized on with the use of epoxy clay, acrylic paints as well as the addition of nuts and bolts. Open till the 10th of March at the 3rd floor of Raffles City Shopping Centre, the sneakers will be on display along with his past work at the NOISE Festival so make it a point to check out the crazy detailing we keep telling you about as well as work from other young talents.
ELECTROCAINE: PODCAST
Consisting of some of the most respected DJ’s and passionate music warriors of our time, Avneesh, Artihc and EJ Missy have come together to showcase their music in the form of Electrocaine Podcasts- a branch out of the collective Electrocaine that also includes talented graphic artist Clogtwo. Spanning across numerous genres from minimal to tech house, techno and the inner depths of house music, they introduce quality back into our ears; something that we receive with arms wide open. These guys have put in much passion into perfecting their craft with their experience and sensitive ears, not to mention having received awards for their work.
Break out of the commercial sounds and tune in to their mixes (updated every 2 weeks with occasional guest dj’s) and find out what’s essential. For a taste, check out the latest house/ techno offering from Avneesh by clicking here.
BLAZIN’ SADDLES: THE PINHOLES TO TEXAS!
The Pinholes are all set to head to Texas! After sending I am David Sparkle and most recently Inch Chua, the National Arts Council have approved the legendary rock ‘n’ roll band’s request to head down to Texas, USA to share the love. The Pinholes’ SXSW (South by SouthWest) set is scheduled for 12 March 2010, but they’ve got to raise some money for their tickets to get there first.
This is your time to step up and show your support by heading down to their fundraiser at HomeClub on the 5th of March (Friday) and watch them alongside other bands such as equally legendary ETC, We GANG, The Rejeks and many more. You know you’re in for a good time and a good cause. Check out the facebook event page for more info!
DRIFTERS: SPRING SUMMER ‘10
WhiteRoom’s very own inhouse label Drifters released their first drop for the Spring Summer ‘10 range about two weeks back, the new batch consisting of four new designs named after the male heartthrobs of the 80’s, namely McCarthy, Stoltz, Dillon and Spader. The shirts come in three colourways each with two detachable collars, and is possibly some of the best and creative cut-and-sew you can find in our country.
Take a look and feel them for yourself over at WhiteRoom, 37 Haji Lane.
MOMOROBO FOR NIKE
Commissioned by Nike Global to produce a tee design for the Presto and Air Force 1’s, Momorobo came up with this amazing piece bearing a caricature of the sneakers accompanied with characters distinctly momorobo. It’s not hard to see that this piece is dope, so keep checking your Nike outlets for these to drop.
And why stop there? Momorobo has plenty of other dope bombs for you to check out at www.momorobo.com.
FRUFRU & TIGERLILY STORE LAUNCH
Music takes the form of accessories and garments, and FruFru & Tigerlily stand by the belief that music along with moods and imagery are related to clothing. The brainchild of Ginette Chittick (of Beat!, Astreal, Psycho Sonique and many other talents), Jasmine Tuan and Cheryl Tan, FruFru & Tigerlily has come a long way since its debut in May 2005, incorporating the images conjured up by their music influences into their clothing.
Come March 12th, the label will be launching their first ever store down at the very familiar Black Market at 19 Jalan Pisang together with their forth collection “Like Wolves“. Looking at pictures of the collection, I cannot help but feel intrigued by the bold cutting as well as the dark vibe that it exudes; definitely a must-see. Free booze as always, so head down and support some of Singapore’s finest!
The new store will be located at Black Market, 19 Jalan Pisang. The store launches 12th March 2010 at 7.30pm.
PHUNK STUDIO: MTV SWAG VIDEO
MTV Swag sees a facelift with the good people of :phunk coming up with on-air show packaging for the segment. The video displays creativity that stays true to MTV’s more-often-than-not random style and imagery, not to mention excellent execution on their part. Check out the flash video here.
hunk has been doing Singapore proud and putting us on the map with their out-the-box ideas, and you too can catch them at Transmission: Lab where they will share their experience and knowledge with aspiring creative talents, and if you’re good enough, you may stand a chance to be one of the 10-15 young talents the studio mentors. Submissions are still open so check Transmission: Lab for more info.
GEN CHUA
Genevieve Chua may best be known for her work such as Raised As A Pack Of Wolves which was shown at the last Singapore M1 Fringe Festival as well as most recently, her photography exhibition Full Moon and Foxes that was exhibited at the National Museum of Singapore. But what we want to show you today is not her photography, but rather highlight her other passion- drawing.
Those who have seen her past exhibition “As Brutal As” would be familiar with her expert display of technicalities and detail with the pencil, mostly exploring the deeper and darker feelings of the human soul through her work. Gen’s ability to communicate her message through different mediums leave us in anticipation on what she is about to show us next. Check out her interview on RCGNTN here.
DBL O ART SPACE 7 FEAT CLOGTWO: TERROR-WRIST
Coming up this 6th March at DBL O Art Space 7 comes Clogtwo, possibly one of the craziest artists I have seen as yet. Ttiled Terror-wrist, be prepared to experience some of the most detailed and unbelieveable display of technique and creativity this man has to offer. Plus with his most recent experimentation with ‘tumorism’- the style derived from the understanding of a parasite that feeds on the host (metaphorically applied on the act of modern human civilisation), be sure to check it out.
